In the past few weeks, Ryanair hit the news over and over again because of hints to redesigning the passenger process. The paid toilets, the "fat-tax" or maximum-weight-tickets, the death of the human-supported check-in process, and now the self-carry-in 'service' for the passenger luggage (bring your own lugguage to the stairs of the aircraft). You can blame Ryanair for seeking PR with old and new ideas, but it clearly it shows that the airline is seeking the borders of acceptance from passengers by launching all kind of more or less serious ideas. They are shaping the low-cost passenger process of the future and turn the customers to see how outrageaous their ideas are. Perhaps not all ideas are executable or even serious but Ryanair is doing a great thing here: old paradigms are being discussed, and they are openly communicating with the customer!  |

In an article on FlightGlobal Mark Pilling wonder whether the current sharp decline in premium class tickets sold by the world's airlines will lead to a significant and remaining reduction of fares of premium (business and first class) travel...... My guess is that this downturn will change the industry, and that the companies that are adaptable to the new situation may survive. Those companies are currently busy redefining their business, their markets, their "old" processes, not just reducing capacity and wait for better times. Read Mark Pilling's article here.  |

A nice article on per seat charter business models by Dan Smith of FlyCorporate. Plenty of business opportunities in India so it seems, as well as here in Europe. Read the PDF of the article! Of course, these economical times and the perception of travelling in corporate aircraft make it harder to grow a profitable buisiness now. However, when the economy picks up again, the business aviation market will flourish probably, because of the fact that a lot of slashed capicaty will not reappear within the next couple of years. |
